Be an Effective Teacher

Are you a teacher seeking for being effective in class? Are you asking for some advises?

Traditionally, teachers were the holders of knowledge and their role was to import
this knowledge to students. Nowadays, and as internet is becoming available for all students, the role of teachers has changed to developing skills and tools to guide and assist students to analyze critically the available information. So effective teaching is going beyond successful transference of knowledge, but creating atmosphere for students to analyze, develop, create and demonstrate understanding.

     Here are five higher-attributes:
  1. Effective teachers have personal qualities that enables them building a caring and respectful relationship with students, parents, and colleagues.
  2. Effective teachers build a class where social justice is available for students.
  3. Effective teachers develop a repertoire of effective teaching practices that motivate students, improve their achievements of skills, build higher-level thinking, and create self dependent learners.
  4. Effective teachers have willingness to knowledge , at least three, knowledge bases about subject they teach, human development and pedagogy.
  5. Effective teachers open toward reflection and problem solving.
These attributes of effective teachers are crucial themes.

Cultural Diversity in Classes

How to deal with cultural diversity in classrooms?

Culture is a word that describes a group's way of life. it includes values, traditions, and attitudes. It is exposed to changing it's not static because it is learned. Beginning teachers worry a lot about how to work effectively with multicultural classes. Numerous strategies are used to deal with needs of all students regardless of their culture, race or ethnicity.

First of all, effective teachers should know about cultural diversity in class, prepare a climate, and respect all students. Second strategy, is using the knowledge and strengths of students to improve the curriculum. third way, is linking lessons and class work to the students background and cultures knowledge. Fourth way, is developing cultural competence. Fifth strategic way, is building a trusting relationship with parents. The last but not least, and most importantly focusing on student's academic success and that all students of any culture or race have the capacity to succeed.

In these ways a teacher can overcome his/her fear of dealing with multicultural classes.

Interesting Experience

I'm attending a course called Technology in Education at LIU with doctor Amal Farhat. From the first session with her I felt really interested in the course. Firstly, because the instructor is very passionate about the course; Secondly, because the course itself is very useful and important in my professional life. The course is reflected by its name, so it is talking about how to use technology in education. she started with how to benefit from gmail account, creating files where we store all our achievements and how to use it in creating online quizzes, questionnaires, evaluation of students and many others.. I'm really benefiting from this course overall.
